What is truth?
Caesar asked Jesus the age-old Hellenic question in John 18. Apparently, Caesar didn't know. That might seem like a stupid question at first glance. But if you were to answer me... what would you say?
How about this one:
What is trust?
The men in ancient Greece were on to something when they asked those questions. They were seeking the deepest core of foundation that God had set up before the beginning, or ever the earth was. That foundation still stands, but few are deeply rooted and growing in it. We have not taught, and have therefore forgotten. These Greek men (Socrates, Aristotle, etc.) were trying to find what they believed, and why they believed. They were not content to just live day to day using beautiful words like truth and trust, not knowing what they are. This is profoundly deep and probably seems useless to ponder, but tell me - how many people can define beauty? I mean true beauty?
Such abstract qualities. We can see them, but cannot too often explain. As if taken from an alabaster box all wrapped in silver cloth...but when unwrapped, invisible. We know the form but not it. Can you define truth yet?
My LORD is my trust. Jesus is my truth. Beauty is holiness, and God is holy.
The knowing that I can count on Him makes him trustworthy. Every rainbow I see proves that He tells the truth. I saw one yesterday evening - two, in fact.
And every time I see His rainbow, I wonder if there's even more to it than His promise. Because where there's a bow, there's an arrow. Whoa, that would be a good thing to look into.
